Gulf State Park, Alabama
Wednesday, July 20, 2011 We looked forward to visiting Gulf beaches and found blue sky, soft white sand, green water, and...well...sad disappointment. The shore line was littered with millions of dead fish. They lay on the sand, and floated in the water as far as we could see in either direction. A few brave people swam anyway. We stepped in and out very quickly just so we could know we were there. So beautiful and so unapproachable!
The park campground has several hundred spaces, a huge swimming pool, and a concession stand. Wifi seemed to be down and we discovered a small sign that said it was only available in the "community building." It took us awhile to find that building and when we did, we were the only people in it. Just the two of us and our laptop computers in a big hall meant for parties. So of course we did what would be expected. We took off our shoes to run and skid on that big floor in our socks.
