Thursday, July 7, 2011Sherando Lake is managed by the U.S. Forest Serv ice. The woods where we hiked looked very much like the woods from the movie, Deliverance.
After a good hike, we stopped at a pond where there were some men fishing from a dock. As we approached, one of the men tossed a fairly large something onto the grass. It was a tortoise about the size of a dinner plate. The tortoise tried to attack the fisherman, and we could see that the creature's head was covered in blood. The man had slit it's throat.
Vince and I stood there staring in astonishment. "Good eatin," was all the man said.
We turned around and headed back to the comfort of our familiar Casita.
