Monday, June 26, 2011. Cedar Bluff is about 3 1/2 hours from Marshall Ash Village where we stayed last night. We camped on the north side of the reservoir. Actually, we drove over to the South side, thinking the hikiing and views would be better but the crushed chalk and gravel roads spooked us. They were high in the center and very bumpy. We were'nt comfortable pulling our little trailer over them.
After setting up, we walked down to the water's edge, thinking we might find hiking trails but there were none. Four or five people were swimming and the water looked inviting but we decided to enjoy a quiet evening under the stars. Looking at the park maps, we noticed a trail that we could access but it was very near an open hunting area..not a good choice for us
Fewer than half the campsites were occupied and many of the filled ones had absentee owners. We guessed that people park their rigs and go home to work during the week .
As the evening deepened, we noticed flashing lights in an adjacent campground. Red, green, blue, yellow...no, another pattern. Binoculars only helped a little...looked like a strange device indeed. So we hopped in the 4Runner and drove over there. It was an enormous electronic "Simon Says" flashing away in the middle of a Kansas State Park in the middle of Kansas. We played it but lost to the machine every time. Definitely out of practice.
Watched the sun set, played with our own electonic toys, and turned in a little early.
